Submission Wrestling uniform

Starting Out

If you are a first-time student in one of the Submission Wrestling classes, feel free to come dressed in sweatpants or shorts and an old t-shirt. However, different students prefer different apparel and optional protective equipment. All of the items below can be purchased through the school and we can recommend our favorite brands and styles.

Gi Pants

Sweat pants tend to wear out quickly. So, some students prefer to wear their gi pants, but without the gi jacket. The canvas gi pants are very durable and cut down on sweat. You can also purchase extra pairs of gi pants separately, if you like.

Board Shorts or MMA Shorts

If you prefer shorts, we are sourcing MMA shorts from a variety of manufacturers.

Note:

Most other shorts are not allowed as they have buckles, buttons, or clasps. MMA shorts are drawstring with hook & loop fasteners which is safer for grappling with your training partner.

Also, street clothes are not allowed in the gym. Don’t come train in the same pair of shorts that you’ve been sitting on the subway with all day! See our Hygiene Rules.

T-Shirts or Rash Guards

T-shirts are OK, but rash guards cut down on skin irritation following hard training sessions. We have a variety of colors & manufacturers available, as well as short and long sleeve. Mizuno long sleeve rash guards have proven to be the most durable.

We also have short sleeve rash guards and t-shirts imprinted with the school logo available in black or white.
